As laboratory findings are effective in early diagnosis and identification of fatal complications and quick treatment of toxicity, in this study we investigated the clinical demography and some laboratory findings in hospitalized patients with acute opioid toxicity with rahabdomyoliysis. Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study, we investigated 354 patients hospitalized in Baharloo educational hospital in Tehran with acute illicit drug toxicity in 2014. Data were collected by an investigator-made check list. The collected Data and variations( such as mortality rate , demographic data, and renal function tests as well as serum biochemichal elements ) were analyzed by descriptive statistics by SPSS22 software. After data analyzes, the results were reported as number, rate, mean and standard deviation and amplitude table. Results:The total number of patients admitted to hospital in 2014 was 354 patients, of which, 291 were male (82. 2%) and 63 were female (17. 8 %). ( between 14 -83 years ). The total number of patients with rhabdomyolysis was reported 76 from which 69 patients were male and7 were female. The number of patients reported with turbid urine, was 18. Most cases of rhabdomyolysis were associated with methadone and then Opium abuse. The average age of patients with rhabdomyolysis was 35. 4 ± 13. 8 years in male patients and 34 ± 18. 4 years in females. Most women with rhabdomyolysis belonged to age group 21 to 30 years , with the highest rate of tramadol abuse, the highest age range in malepatients reported 31 to 40 years with methadone and opium as the most common illicit drug abused. Initiation of rhabdomyolysis in male patients taking methadone began earlier than otherdrugs. In female patients, the rhabdomyolysis onset who abused tramadol was reported the earlieest. In this study, the mean serum creatinine was 8. 6±0. 6 mg/dl B taking creatinine in the range of 2 mg dl to define renal failure, all of our patients (in the rhabdomyolysis group) had ARF. Mean blood urea was 3. 8 ± 1 mmol /dl. Mean serum potassium and sodium was measured, 3. 8 ± 0. 3 mmol /dL and 140. 4 ± 4 mmol /dL respectively. five patient expired due to severe renal failure (6. 5%), who all were male. Conclusion: Toxicity with opioids is associated with clinical complications and laboratory disorders such as electrolyte disorders which can lead to lethal and life threatening results in some cases. So in the future by the help of this study and conduction of extended studies with bigger sample size and numerous and varied tests, we can identify the laboratory disorders in opioid toxicity in order to use them for better and more efficient treatment of patients. Key words: laboratory findings, toxicity, opioid, Rhabdomyolysis
