At the beginning of the residency program, residents will participate in airway management, vascular access and regional anesthesia clinical skills workshops with the goal of learning techniques required in the operating room.

Mastering basic anesthesia skills on routine cases under close faculty supervision in the general operating rooms is the main goal during the first year of residency. Night and weekend shifts with faculty supervision during the first year of residency maybe quite intense, but we assure you it is very enjoyable and with the help of faculty members and staff very educational. Preoperative Clinics are also part of the educational program of the first year residents from the beginning.
During the second and third year of residency a wide range of in anesthetic subspecialties are experienced by our residents. These rotations include:

A Message from the Chairman:

Development of anesthesiology as an academic discipline and clinical application of general anesthesia has been one of the most important milestones and benchmarks of modern medical practice.

Anesthesiology was amongst the leading professions to emphasis and focus on reducing the risk of complications by insisting on the importance of evidence-based guidelines and standards.
Practice of anesthesiology continues to flourish and develop, evidenced not only by the expansion of recognized subspecialties within our field but also by the range of remote settings led and run by anesthesiologists.

Nowadays, anesthesiologists not only work in the operating rooms around the world, but also in the intensive care units and many remote locations such as the labor and delivery suites. Acute and chronic pain management; perioperative medicine and sleep medicine are other well-recognized fields of interest.

In addition, a wide range of research opportunities from molecular and cellular mechanisms through to patient related clinical studies exist for anesthesiologists.

We at the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at Tehran University of Medical Sciences are committed to take the department a step further into perfection.

My vision and goals for the department of anesthesiology is to promote safe practice of anesthesia for patients, maintain and improve high quality education and meet and support the academic research ambitions at our faculty.

We value and welcome your interest in Department of Anesthesiology, Critical care and Pain Medicine and encourage you to contact us with any questions you may have.

Professor and Chairman of Department of Anesthesiology
